Key Features

Proximity Awareness

COMPASS provides alerts for the presence of both voltage and current long before the user is in danger of coming in contact with a threat.

Directional Awareness

In addition to proximity alerts, COMPASS also shows the approximate direction of the threat with bold and clear LEDs.

360 Degrees of Protection

Its innovative hard hat mounted design allows COMPASS to detect sources of voltage and current coming from any direction.

FAQ

Will Compass detect an energized neutral?

The Safeguard COMPASS will detect an energized neutral in a couple of ways:
1. If a neutral is in an open-circuit condition, it can detect the voltage.
2. If a neutral is carrying current, the unit can detect current flow when it is in proximity to the conductor.

Yes. However, when a phase of a delta system contacts the earth, the electrical field detection of the COMPASS® may be severely restricted or eliminated. Consider all downed wires to be energized.

If the conductor's load carries 100 amps and the Compass's setting is on high, it should be able to detect the source at a minimum distance of 6 feet away. However, this will also depend on soil types, current cancellations, and the orientation of the conductor.

Attention

COMPASS® IS DESIGNED AS AN ADDED LAYER OF PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTRICAL CONTACT. IT’S NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE EXISTING SAFETY PROCEDURES OR PPE. ALWAYS USE PROPER HIGH-VOLTAGE PROCEDURES, INCLUDING PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, WHEN WORKING NEAR OR AROUND HIGH-VOLTAGE EQUIPMENT OR CONDUCTORS. NEVER DIRECTLY CONTACT HIGH-VOLTAGE WITH THE COMPASS® PERSONAL VOLTAGE AND CURRENT DETECTOR. ALWAYS USE PROPER HIGH-VOLTAGE PROCEDURES FOR TESTING AND GROUNDING. DO NOT RELY ON COMPASS® AS YOUR SOLE SOURCE OF HIGH-VOLTAGE DETECTION. RISK OF ELECTROCUTION IS INHERENT AROUND HIGH-VOLTAGE.
