Overview
Sensitivity sets how readily the device escalates alerting. Sensitivity for the current detection method (voltage or current) can be changed on the device or in Navigator Mobile. Compass now uses a single 22-setting sensitivity scale shared across the series. There is no Low, Medium, or High voltage range to select any more, on the device or in Navigator Mobile.
Model differences
- Compass Core: voltage sensitivity is limited to two settings, and current sensitivity to one. No adaptive modes and no Alert Disable. Ask your Safeguard representative which settings apply to your Core fleet.
- Compass Pro and Compass Pro IS: voltage and current each support the numbered settings plus the adaptive modes and Alert Disable. Compass Pro IS has no setting 22, so it runs 21 voltage settings.
Change sensitivity on the device
- Press and hold the MAIN button. The corner lights cycle through colors — RED for voltage, BLUE for current.
- Release the button at the color of the menu you want to enter (RED = voltage, BLUE = current).
- Each light filled in the bar represents a sensitivity level. Click MAIN quickly to cycle through the settings on the 22-point scale. 0 disables the alert, 1 is the lowest sensitivity, and 22 is the highest. A setting number now means the same thing on every connected device, whatever its generation.
- Smart Adaptive Mode (Pro and Pro IS) is shown by lights filling and fading from the center outward.
- Press and hold MAIN for about 1 second to save and exit.
Transit
While either adaptive mode is active, a single press of the MAIN button puts the device in Transit. Transit works in both adaptive modes, Smart Adaptive and Work Zone Adaptive.
In Transit the audible alarm and the directional indicator are off. The detection is not. Sensitivity never changes. The device sees exactly what it saw before, and the corner LEDs still alert and still escalate as you get closer. In Transit the device has to be looked at, not listened to.
A tone sounds when you enter Transit and again when you leave, so you hear the mode change even though you will not hear alerts. Transit stays on until you press again. It does not end when you arrive.
With Adaptive turned off, on a fixed setting, a quick press of the MAIN button toggles mute, as it always has. The device beeps twice when muting and plays three quick increasing alerts when unmuting. While muted in an above-threshold voltage or current field, the device shows periodic fading corner lights only — RED for voltage, BLUE for current — with no audible alert.
Adjust in Navigator Mobile
Open the paired device in Navigator Mobile. The Voltage and Current tabs each expose a Sensitivity Setting, an Alert Disable toggle, an Adaptive setting, and a Mute toggle. Changes take effect immediately on the connected device.
Adaptive setup opens from the wand icon on the tab and runs in two steps: which adaptive mode to use, then how big the work area should be. Voltage and current are set separately.
Before you change anything
Confirm your role and site policy allow sensitivity or mute changes. Some organizations restrict muting entirely, and admins can apply Compass Pro Configurations from Navigator Console that lock specific options. Configurations applied from Console do not take effect until the user acknowledges them in Navigator Mobile.
