Overview
The Compass Series family includes three SKUs: Compass Core, Compass Pro, and Compass Pro IS. They share the same physical envelope (3.0" × 1.4" × 0.9", IP-67 enclosure) but differ in sensitivity granularity, emergency capability, environmental ratings, and battery chemistry. Procedures and firmware packages are model- and hardware-version-specific — confirm the model before applying any guide.

Charging is the same across the family: typically 1.5 hours to 100% from a USB source delivering at least 5 V / 0.5 A; charging temperature 0 °C to 45 °C.
Compass Core
Entry-level model with reduced sensitivity granularity and no adaptive modes. Compass Core is included in the Consolidated Range Release, and with an active ERS subscription Compass Core raises emergency events. If a procedure references the full sensitivity scale or an adaptive mode, it does not apply to Core. For what Core receives in this update and how it differs from Compass Pro, talk to your Safeguard representative.
Compass Pro
Full voltage sensitivity across the 22-setting scale, both adaptive modes, and Alert Disable. Range selection has been removed: a single setting number now covers what Low, Medium and High used to separate, and it means the same thing on every connected device.
Compass Pro IS
Intrinsically safe variant carrying UL 60079-0 / 60079-11 / 61010-1, CSA C22.2 #60079-0 / 60079-11 / 61010-1-12, and IEC 60079-0 / 60079-11 ratings. Operating temperature is reduced to -20 °C to 50 °C, the battery is smaller (Li-ion 3.7 V / 85 mAh, ~2 days of typical use), and the device has no setting 22, so it runs 21 voltage settings. The Compass Pro IS Annex is the authoritative document for hazardous-location use.
Hardware generations
Pro and Pro IS High Voltage Range behavior changed in 2025. Devices identified in Navigator Mobile as V4 and prior use first-generation tuning; V5+ uses second-generation tuning with extended detection distances. Compass Pro IS units are all V5+. Compass Pro 60 Hz units (M03006) built before week 28 of 2025 are first-generation; Pro 50 Hz units (M03008) built before week 26 of 2025 are first-generation. The split matters when comparing field experience across older and newer hardware in the same crew.
