Overview
Compass Series devices supplement qualified electrical safety programs. They do not replace lockout/tagout, qualified personnel, permits, PPE, or regulatory obligations applicable to your work. The disclosures below are reproduced from the Compass Series User Guide and govern Compass Series field use.
Field-use disclosures
- Verify your Compass Series device firmware is updated to ensure its behavior matches what is described in the user guide. Connect the device to Navigator Mobile to receive the latest update.
- Before field use, always verify correct device operation by testing with a known source of voltage or current.
- Always adhere to proper high-voltage electrical safety practices.
- Extreme humidity may decrease the voltage and current detection capabilities.
- Some materials may shield electromagnetic fields from the detection circuits of Compass Series.
- Compass Series is intended to be used as a secondary voltage detection method only.
- Warning distances can vary due to a live conductor's exposed surface area, elevation above ground, and proximity to other grounded conductive objects.
- If the user is walking briskly, this may reduce initial warning distances.
- 3-phase systems can hinder detection accuracy by creating electric fields that cancel out in certain areas.
- Smart Adaptive Mode should be used only by experienced electrical professionals.
Customer-facing boundaries
- Operate only within ratings and environments defined in official documentation for your hardware revision.
- Do not modify hardware or firmware outside authorized channels.
- Treat Navigator connectivity as potentially delayed; emergency workflows depend on Bluetooth and the phone's network.
- For intrinsic safety or regulated environments, use only models approved and labeled for that context. Compass Pro IS units carry UL / CSA / IEC 60079-0 and 60079-11 ratings and ship with a separate Pro IS Annex.
Handheld-mode caveat
Emergency event features (impact, fall, arc-flash, no-motion detection) are designed and tested to work in the hard-hat-mounted position. These features may not work as expected when the device is used in handheld mode.

If a Compass Series device persists in a RED + YELLOW fault state, file an RMA at SafeguardEquipment.com/return or call 208-773-9263.
