Overview
Compass Series devices use the LED light bar and a recurring "heartbeat" pulse to communicate power, connectivity, voltage range, alerts, and emergency status. Combine these visual cues with Navigator Mobile and (for entitled roles) Navigator Console signals.
Heartbeat
The heartbeat flashes every 2 seconds while the device is on. Two characteristics carry meaning:
- Position on the light bar encodes the selected voltage range — Low (L), Medium (M), or High (H).
- Color encodes connectivity. GREEN = device is paired over Bluetooth and the phone has network connectivity (Wi-Fi or cellular). WHITE = one or both of those is missing or partial.
Alert colors
- RED LEDs and a tone for voltage alerts.
- BLUE LEDs and a tone for current alerts.
- Urgency and frequency of the alert increase as the user approaches the source, scaled to the selected sensitivity setting.
Directional voltage alerts
When voltage is detected off to the side, the corner LEDs sweep RED toward the direction of the source. Sweeping stops once the user is facing the source — the device then flashes RED LEDs at each end of the light bar.
Muted state
When muted and inside an above-threshold voltage or current field, the device shows periodic fading corner lights only — RED for voltage, BLUE for current — with no audible alert.
Emergency state
When the device signals or receives an emergency event, the corner LEDs flash ORANGE and WHITE three times with an accompanying tone. After that, the heartbeat is replaced by a silent ORANGE/WHITE pulse animation until the user opens the emergency chat in Navigator Mobile.
Fault state
If the device's periodic self-test detects a fault, the corner LEDs flash RED and YELLOW. This indicates the device may not be trustworthy for safety monitoring until cleared or serviced — see Device Shows Red and Yellow Fault LEDs.
