Overview
Emergency event communication between Compass Series and the rest of the Safeguard Navigator system requires an active Navigator subscription. Without a subscription, the device still does its voltage and current work and can receive emergency event SMS messages, but it cannot detect, send, or coordinate emergency events.
How an event looks on the device
When the device signals or receives an emergency event, the corner LEDs flash ORANGE and WHITE three times with an accompanying tone. After that, the regular heartbeat is replaced by a silent ORANGE/WHITE pulse animation until the user opens the emergency chat in Navigator Mobile.
Automatically created events
- Impact — generated when the device is hard-hat-mounted, the impact is in a downward direction, and the force is severe enough that it could cause a concussion.
- Fall — generated when the device experiences a fall greater than 6 ft (1.8 m).
- Arc Flash — generated when the device detects light characteristics of an arc flash severe enough to cause injury.
- No Motion / Man Down — added to elevate urgency when no motion is detected for 60 seconds following the initiation of an emergency event. No movement does not trigger an event by itself.
Manually created events
Press and hold the SOS button on the Compass — or the in-app SOS button — for 3 seconds to trigger an SOS event. The SOS button countdown sound can be disabled in Navigator Mobile (Emergency Service Settings) for discreet activation.
Countdown, confirm, cancel
Automatically created events start a 30-second countdown before notifying the response team. The countdown can be expedited from the CONFIRM slider in the app or by holding the SOS button on the Compass. The countdown can be canceled from the CANCEL slider in the app or by holding the MAIN button on the Compass. Once the event has been created, it can only be canceled in the app.
